Clear's Tai Chi
The Double Weighted Error
And How to Fix it

Without correcting the Double Weighted Error, your Tai Chi will always be low level.
I was lucky that I understood this Error early in my training.
(Maybe that had to do with my Kung Fu teacher hitting me every time I made the Error!)
Those were good lessons, and I don't regret having them.
But I think most people aren't willing to put themselves through that. At least, not for as long as I did.
The Double Weighted Error is famously hard to explain.
Even among the teachers I've met that know what it is and how to fix it...
I've never met one who could easily convey it to students.
Most teachers get really quiet when the subject comes up.
Others just smack their students when they go double weighted (like my teacher did to me...)
I admit that method works, but I wanted a better way.
I've also seen a lot of explanations that are just flat wrong.
The most common of which being:
"The Double Weighted Error is when you have weight on both feet."
Well then why do almost all the Tai Chi forms START AND END that way?
I think part of the problem is that the language is just confusing. After all, there is only a name for the ERROR, but there is not a common name for when you are doing things right.
Even the Chinese Masters have trouble telling their students what it is and how to fix it...
And in the West we have to rely on modern English translations of ancient Chinese poems.
So I figured the best way to teach it
is to let you FEEL it.
No, not by hitting you!
I can teach you with some simple drills that I created.
I tested the method out in a workshop a while back, and it worked so well that every single person in the room actually understood the error by the end...
The Double Weighted Error is famously hard to explain.
Even among teachers I've met that know how to fix it...
...I've never met one that didn't have trouble getting their students to understand it.
A lot of them get really quiet when the subject comes up.
A lot of them just hit their students when they go double weighted.
I'll vouch for that working, but I wanted a better way.
And then they all FIXED it!
Now, don't make the mistake of thinking this is like a switch you flip one time and it's fixed forever, problem solved. Even knowing what the problem is won't keep you from making mistakes here and there.
BUT fixing the Double Weighted Error is a skill, and like any skill it gets easier to do with practice
And the better you get at it the more easily you can take advantage of the Error when others are making it.
Making the Double Weighted Error will stunt your abilities.
I said it once, and I'll say it again:
Without correcting the double weighted error, your Tai Chi will always be low level.
Your response time will be slow, you'll have difficulty being able to empty or fill places in your body, and you will be easy to move because your power is cut off.
Learn what the Error really is
Get really comfortable looking for it, because it likes to rear its ugly head right when you think you've got it down.
But if you can fix it, the benefits are enormous.
You'll be quicker on your feet – and quicker to react.
Sluggishness with Internal Skills will start to go away because you will be removing the roadblocks.
You'll move energy faster. Your sensitivity will skyrocket. Your root will get deeper and stronger.
And you'll feel like a solid rock to anyone trying to push you.
You'll also be able to MAKE others double weighted (if they weren't already).
I cannot stress how crucial this skill is to ANY martial art.
Weighting yourself properly will be one of the most important things you ever do.
So what are you waiting for?
